What To Expect

Free confidential telephone consultation

You can access a free consultation to discuss your difficulties and I will answer any questions you may have. There is no obligation to enter therapy, this is purely to help you decide whether CBT may be right for you.

First session (50 minute assessment - face to face or online)

The first session of therapy is the assessment, which will allow us to develop a shared understanding of the problem. This usually focuses on identifying how your thoughts, ideas, feelings, attitudes, and behaviours affect your day-to-day life, and exploring any historical issues that might inform your current difficutlies. Together we can then decide on a treatment plan, with goals to work towards, and the number of sessions likely to be needed.

Ongoing sessions (face to face or online)

Each session lasts 50 minutes. Typically, a session of therapy is once weekly to begin with, a course of CBT can be longer or shorter depending on the nature and severity of the condition. Some difficulties can be treated over 4 -6 sessions, other more complex issues may take longer.

Content and structure of therapy

You will be encouraged to take an active part in therapy, and will usually be given work to complete in-between sessions. If you have social anxiety, for example, you may be asked to keep a diary of your thoughts and behaviours which occur when you become anxious before, or during a social event. Further out of session work may be experimenting with alternative ways of coping which you have learned during therapy. The out of session aspect of CBT is crucial in enabling us to understand what happens in real life situations and encourages you to experiment in between sessions, in order to get the most out of the therapeutic process and make the changes that are helpful for you.

 Confidentiality

No information discussed in therapy will be given to any other person or agency without consent from you. This includes information about whether or not you are using the service.

Fees and Insurance based funding

You can access a free confidential telephone consultation which will last around 15 minutes, with no obligation. This consultation will be arranged at a time convenient to you.

Fees can be paid on a session by session basis, this can be paid in cash, cheque or BACS payment.

As I'm registered with BUPA, Axa, Aviva and most other providers, all you need to do is give your provider a call and they will issue you with an authrorisation code prior to attendance. Once you have the code, we can begin therapy, it's generally a fuss-free process, which is helpful, as it's important to make access to therapy as easy as possible.

There is a 24 hour cancellation period required for scheduled sessions.
